Rwenzori Branch

Whereas The Bible Society of Uganda has greatly made Bibles readily available in the different languages spoken in Rwenzori region, they remain out of reach for most people in rural areas due to lack of a favourable transport system. This gives raise to many Deus’ that are more interested in business rather than mission and take advantage of Christians whose main source of income is small scale farming and don’t even have access to town centres where Bibles are cheaper and this puts the Christian community at a risk of being charged exorbitantly to own a copy of the Bible or left with an option of not having one at all.

Taking Bibles in one of the district villages of Rwenzori is quite challenging for example to Bwera- Mpondwe at the Uganda-Congo boarder, it requires the use of commuter taxes whose capacity is 14 passengers but unfortunately the taxi men aren’t bothered but load excessively to about 20 to 25 people. Meanwhile the Bibles are placed in the boot that is filled with other commodities like bails of clothes, bunches of Matooke, jerry cans of palm oil locally called Engazi etc. In my heart I would be praying endless prayers for it not to rain or for the jerry cans of Engazi not to pour on my boxes of Bibles.

Plan

There are different ways we plan to raise funds towards the purchase of the branch vehicle which you can choose through, the different options on how you can support us include:  Free will offering from different churches, Individual donations, NGOs contributions, through friends, friends of friends, nominations of donors, well-wishers any other that can suit your convenience.

We have a target of raising 80 million to purchase a Double cabin that can handle the mountainous terrain of the branch as well as have the back space used for display while in the field.

Impact

With the branch van in place, we will fully take part in fulfilling the great commission that you wouldn’t wish to miss “therefore go and make disciples of all nations……….” Genesis 28:19 and because the word of God will have reached all corners, lives will be transformed, meaningful distribution of riptures to all corners rather than urban centres, engagement with the word of God as well as helping everyone interact with the word of God in the language they understand best.

Track record

As a way of making the word of God available and affordable to the Christian community in the Rwenzori region, the branch over the past 10 years have extended its services to over 8 districts that include Kabarole, Kamwenge, Kyenjojo, Kasese, Ntoroko, Bunyangabu, Bundibugyo and Kyegegwa majoring more in the urban centres due to the incapacity to move across the region caused by high costs of hiring cars and the lack of a favourable transport system that can handle the terrain of the region which has greatly left many hard to reach areas unattended to.

According to Uganda National Population and Housing Census, 2014 main report, it indicates that Rwenzori region covers a population of 2,573,915 people and on average we distribute about 16,000 Bibles annually concentrating mainly in town centres.
