Why you should support the Blind
Uganda has a population of 2.1 million blind people and many are marginalized and kept aside by their communities.
As the Bible Society of Uganda, our mission is to provide affordable holy scriptures in languages and media that communicate effectively to the people. With this mission, we envision a people fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed. We believe that the Bible as God’s word is life for all and can change our nation and the world for better.
For a long time, the Bible society of Uganda used audio Bibles for visually impaired people so that they could listen to the word of God. The audio Bible had its advantages as even those visually impaired people without an education can listen to the word of God.
Over the years, some of the visually impaired people in Uganda have managed to go to school and get an education hence they are quite competent in reading Braille. So the Bible Society of Uganda introduced the English Braille Bible with the complete one launched in 2016.
With that came demands for local language Braille Bibles and we have successfully managed to produce the first local language Braille Bible in Luganda which is the most widely spoken local language in Uganda.
Producing these Braille Bibles alone is not enough. We would like to produce enough of these Bibles so make sure that all visually impaired people in Uganda have access to the word of God.
On average, a Braille Bibles costs 500 USD. We do not sell these Bibles though. With support from well-wishers, we are able to give these Bible out for free.
You too can support this cause. Please join us by financially supporting our project to get Bibles to all visually impaired people in Uganda.
